India TV-CVOTER exit poll: Modi all set for hat-trick in Gujarat, Congress touches half-way mark in Himachal

New Delhi: The ruling BJP under the leadership of Chief Minister Narendra Modi is all set to score hat-trick in Gujarat assembly elections with near two-thirds majority, according to an exit poll conducted by India TV in association with CVOTER.In Himachal Pradesh, it appears to be a neck-to-neck fight. The exit poll results indicate that Congress will be touching the half-way mark while the ruling BJP will emerge as a close second.Let's have a look at the exit poll results for the two states one by one:Gujarat:According to this exit poll, out of a total of 182 seats, BJP is expected to emerge victorious in 120 assembly constituencies. The main opposition party, Congress, is expected to win 58 seats. In terms of seat gains and losses, BJP is expected to improve its tally by 3 more seats while Congress is poised to lose 1 seat compared to last assembly results. In 2007 assembly elections, BJP had won 117 seats while Congress had emerged victorious on 59 seats.What is interesting is the fact that BJP looks to be losing vote percentage although it has managed to add more seats to its kitty. In 2007 assembly elections, BJP had received 49 percent of popular votes but the exit poll results show that the party has lost 3 percent of votes in 2012 elections. BJP is expected to get 46 percent of votes.For Congress, it looks to be case of double whammy. The exit poll results not only indicate a decrease in number of seats for Congress but a decrease of 2 percent in popular votes as well. The party is expected to win only 58 seats this time, 1 less than 2007 assembly elections. The party is expected to get 37 per cent of popular votes. In 2007 assembly elections, Congress had won 39 percent of popular votes.GPP, the party of Keshubhai Patel, looks all set to open its account in state assembly although they seem to have completely failed in checking the juggernaut of Modi .GPP is expected to get 2 seats only. Keshubhai may have failed to deliver severe blow to Modi's forward march but he has definitely succeeded in making inroads into Patel votes. GPP is expected to win 9 per cent of popular votes.Others are also expected to get 6 seats. Others are expected to get 8 per cent of popular votes, a net loss of 5 percent. Himachal Pradesh:Himachal results could bring cheers to the Congress party as it looks set to emerge as the single largest party. Not only this, the party has also managed to touch the half-way mark.Out of a total of 68 seats, the Congress party is expected to win 34 seats in Himachal while the BJP is expected to get 31 seats. It means that BJP will lose 10 seats while the Congress will gain 11 seats.In terms of vote percentage, the data is very interesting. Although the BJP seems to be losing 10 seats, it has managed to retain its vote share. The BJP's vote share stands at 44 per cent and that is what the party had got in 2007. On the other hand, the Congress party has improved both its seat tally as well as its vote percentage. The Congress is expected to get 44 per cent of popular votes, a net gain of 5 per cent.
