Aurangabad, May 26 : Bihar BJP leader Ramadhar Singh's bail application in connection with a case charging him with making communal and inflamatory speech 19 years ago was denied by a local court after he surrendered before it today.

Chief Judicial Magistrate in-charge Ashutosh Khetan rejected the former state cooperative minister's bail plea after his surrender on the directive of Patna High Court and remanded him to 14 days' judicial custody.

Later, Singh said he would appeal to the higher court.

Singh had to resign from the cabinet on May 19 under pressure from Opposition parties, who petitioned Governor Devanand Konwar seeking his dismissal in the wake of his being declared an absconder by the court in Aurangabad district 16-years ago.

Singh had moved the High Court, which in its order on May 20 said as the matter related to 1995 and therefore he should surrender before the court below.

Singh was declared an absconder by the court in May 1995 after he had repeatedly failed to appear before it in connection with the case registered by police in 1992. PTI
