Kolkata, May 8: Senior CPI(M) leaders yesterday alleged that the investigations into the Saradha chitfund bust were not going forward since the police were being 'instructed' from 'Writers' Buildings' on what it should and should not do.

"There are capable police officers for carrying out an impartial investigation. But how can the police perform when they are being regularly instructed by Writers' Buildings on what it can do and what it cannot do. That is why the investigations are not going forward," CPI(M) central committee member Mohammed Salim said during a party rally.

Another central committee member Goutam Deb questioned why the police were not interrogating those named by arrested Saradha Group chairman Sudipta Sen in his letter to the CBI.

He also issued a veiled warning to the police saying that the Left Front would return to power in future.

Deb accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of being arrogant by not calling an all party meeting to discuss the scam which has claimed 11 lives so far.

"What is preventing her from calling an all party meeting to discuss the chitfund scam? It is her arrogance that is stopping her from doing do," Deb alleged at the rally which was shifted to the Shyambazar tram depot after the police denied permission for holding it at the Shyambazar 5-point crossing.

Deb also said that his party and the Left Front needed to learn from its mistakes to regain popular support.

"We have lost the people's support because of our own mistakes. We need to go back to the masses. We need to go back to our supporters and those of the Trinamool Congress also," he added.
