Ghaziabad, Nov 1: Former BJP president and local MP Rajnath Singh today said Home Minister P Chidambaram could have prevented the 2G scam as he was the finance minister when the spectrum allocations were made.

Talking to reporters here this evening, he also charged the Prime Minister Office with having full knowledge of the goings on in the telecom ministry and wondered how despite such important government functionaries being in the know, a scam of such magnitude occurred.

Asking Chidambram to quit if he is innocent, the BJP leader said the government must take lawful action against him if he is guilty.

He also asked the PMO to clarify its position on the issue and warned that people would teach the UPA a lesson if it did not do so.

Singh also said the BJP was in support of Anna Hazare's fight against corruption but asked the social activist not to politicise his movement.

“The issue of corruption should be kept out of politics,” he said.

Rajnath, who has just concluded his Jan Swabhiman Yatra in Uttar Pradesh, claimed that people were looking for change and would vote for the BJP in Assembly polls early next year.

Claiming that Mayawati's wasteful expenditure of about Rs 3000 crore on her own statues and parks had not gone down well with people, the BJP leader said they need employment and essential commodities for life.
