Patna: While BJP and its allies won in hordes in Bihar riding on the Modi wave, BJP's Muslim poster boy Shahnawaz Hussain faced defeat at the hands of RJD by a slender margin of 9,485 votes at Bhagalpur seat.
RJD's Shailesh Kumar alias Bulo Mandal bagged 3,67,623 votes while Shahnawaz Hussain secured 3,58,138 votes.
The JD(U) which had strategically put up a Muslim candidate in Abu Kaiser played spoilsport to Shahnawaz as its nominee got 1,32,256 votes.
Shahnawaz had won the seat comfortably as an NDA candidate in 2009.
