Claiming that opposition-sponsored Bharat Bandh against price rise today was a complete success, Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav said his party played a major role in it raising the problem faced by the common people in a forceful manner. Talking to newspersons at his residence here, Yadav said the present rise in inflation had no logic as there was no scarcity of foodgrains.

"The godowns have enough foodgrains and yet they are being sold at high rates to people," Yadav said alleging that the government was not serious about controlling prices.

Accusing the government of taking no step to sell the foodgrains and other goods available with it through the fair price shops despite claiming that the situation is not alarming, the SP leader said at several places the grains stacked in the open were going waste. Holding the ruling UPA at the Centre and the BSP in the state responsible for price rise, Yadav said both are yet to act against hoarders and blackmarketeers.

Claiming that the call for 'Bharat Bandh" was given by the Left parties and the SP, Yadav said BJP which had planned the bandh over the issue for another date later joined them. The SP chief said that government tried to crush the SP workers in Lucknow since the morning, using water cannons and lathis but they faced it bravely.

The BJP workers were locked in their office as soon as they came out while the others in their support fled, he claimed. PTI
