Personal life & political journey:
Born in Hyderabad on 14 June 1970, Akbaruddin left the study of medicine midway to enter politics in 1995. He married to a Christian woman against his father's wish. His wife converted to Islam and adopted a new name - Sabina Farzana. The father and son later reconciled in 1998.
Akbaruddin also looks after the management of Owaisi Hospital that his father had founded for the welfare of Muslims.
He entered Andhra Pradesh assembly in 1999 as the deputy to his elder brother Asauddin Owaisi who was leading the MIM in the house.
In 2004, Akbaruddin's father Salahuddin decided to step down in favour of his elder son Asauddin Owaisi. From 1984 to 2004, Salahuddin had represented Hyderabad in Lok Sabha.
After Asauddin moved over to Lok Sabha, Akbrauddin was made the leader of MIM in Andhra Pradesh assembly.
