Agartala, Jan 28: Opposition Congress yesterday released its election manifesto promising to provide seven kg rice per family every month free of cost to people of very poor category.

Those belonging to BPL category would get 35 kg of rice per family per month at Re 1 a kg if the party was voted to power in the February 14 Assembly election in Tripura.

AICC General Secretary in charge of Tripura, Luizinho Falerio, unveiled the 32-page manifesto of the Congress-INPT combine for the assembly election.

The alliance also focused on various fields including poverty alleviation, employment, welfare schemes for employees, pensioners, SC-ST-OBC and students. It also promised to take stringent measures to check corruption.

As many as 150 mandays would be provided to each labour card holder annually under MGNREGA and wages would be enhanced from Rs 120 to Rs 200, Falerio said.

"Special measures will be initiated to provide employment to at least one educated or semi-educated unemployed member of each family," he said.

Denying the Left Front government's claim of ban on fresh recruitment in Tripura by the Centre, Faleiro said the UPA government had not issued any such instruction.

"Vacant posts under different government departments will be filled up and a realistic employment policy will be adopted if the combine is voted to power," he said.
