Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has recovered completely and is well aware of what is happening around her, Apollo Hospitals CMD Pratap Reddy said here today.

“Jayalalithaa is well. She now asks and demands what she wants,” Reddy said.

“She is aware of what is happening around her, she has to now decide on when to go home,” Reddy added.

The 68-year-old leader has been in hospital since September 22, being treated for lung infection.

Apollo Hospital had last issued a medical report on Jayalalithaa’s health on October 21. Doctors had said that her condition had improved but she needed a longer stay at the hospital as she had infection and was on respiratory support.

According to Apollo, a team of specialists like cardiologists, respiratory physicians, consultants for infectious diseases, diabetologist and endocrinologist was treating Jayalalithaa.

Earlier this morning, senior AIADMK leader and spokesperson C Ponnaiyan said that the party supremo will soon be moved out of the critical care unit (CCU) to a private room.

“The lung infection is under control. She has passed the critical stage. The respiratory system is being weaned away. It is being used on and off,” Ponnaiyan said.

He said for the past one week Jayalalithaa was having semi solid food. She was also talking with people now.
