Prime Minister Narendra Modi today threw his weight behind incumbent Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal urging the voters to give another chance to the SAD-BJP alliance and lambasted Congress for maligning the youth of the state.
Addressing a rally at Punjab's Jalandhar, the Prime Minister slammed Congress alleging that it is desperate for grabbing power.
"They (Congress) allied with Left in West Bengal and now in UP after months of attacking Samajwadi Party they are now allying with them," Modi said.
Calling the grand old party a sinking boat, the PM said Congress was overconfident of winning 2012 Punjab polls also, We saw what happened.
Some political parties are stooping a new low and trying to malign the image of youth of Punjab, the PM said in what is seen as an indirect counter to Rahul Gandhi's claim that 70 per cent of youth in Punjab are addicted to drugs.
Throwing his weight behind Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal, Modi said that the Akali Dal supremo spent years in public life but never changed parties or compromised on ideals.
"Punjab wants to see Shri Parkash Singh Badal a CM again. He is a leader who always worked for Punjab," he added.
Earlier today, Congress vice-president accused the Badals of “hurting” Punjab with their policies. He accused them of distributing Punjab’s resources among themselves and also failing to act on the drug menace ailing the state.
