New Delhi: Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) leader Kuldeep Bishnoi today confirmed his party’s merger with the Indian National Congress after a meeting with Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi.

“Formal announcement of our merger will be made tomorrow morning” said Bishnoi.

According to sources, the meeting was held at Bishnoi’s residence where the decision of merging HJC with Congress was principally landed upon.

Sources further revealed that the merger could take place in next couple of days, but, before it happens, Bishnoi will be meeting the Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Founded in 2007, the HJC was floated by Bishnoi’s father and former CM Bhajan Lal who parted ways with Congress in the same year after it preferred Bhupinder Singh Hooda to lead their government.

Bhajan Lal, in 2011, forged into an alliance with Bhartiya Janta Party for the 2014 parliamentary and assembly elections.

However, Kuldeep Bishnoi decided to breakaway from BJP in 2014, two months ahead of the assembly elections. He termed the party a 'serial betrayer' and said it had always dictated terms to his party that was totally unfair.
