New Delhi:

Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrashekhar on Friday moved a bill in the Upper House that asked Indian government to declare Pakistan a terrorist state.

The bill also asked the government to snap all economic and trade relations with the western neighbour.

"The government and the Parliament must act now. The winds of change are blowing against terrorism and terror sponsors. While the US Congress has debated a bill, our Parliament has done very little since 1994," Rajeev Chandrashekhar said.

He pointed out that unless India itself takes the lead in declaring Pakistan a terrorist state, it cannot expect others to do so.

"As long as India does not declare Pakistan a terror state, India cannot expect the rest of the world to declare it the same," he added.

Raising questions over the wisdom of extending most favoured nation status to Pakistan, Rajeev Chandrashekhar said, "The terror attacks on India has not just cost lives but also significant economic loss to us. On one hand, our businesses bleed due to Pakistan sponsored terror yet on the other hand, we continue to grant Pakistan the most favoured nation without the same being granted to us reciprocally."

The Rajya Sabha MP added that the adoption of his bill by the Parliament will only reflect  the will of Indian people.

"With this Bill, we in Parliament can reflect the will of our people because there is no one in this country who does not want this that Pakistan be declared a state that sponsors terrorism," he said.
