New Delhi: The heat of AgustaWestland scam has now reached the doors of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claiming links between middleman Guido Haschke to Gandhi scion’s close aide Kanishk Singh.

Training his guns on Rahul, BJP MP Kirit Somaiya demanded CBI and ED to check Rahul’s links with the middleman in the case who was involved in the CWG scam.

In a letter to the chiefs of the CBI and ED, the BJP leader referred to his earlier letters to the agencies saying Guido is common in both the scams and that he is linked to Christian Michel, an accused in the VVIP choppers scam.

"I would request you to check the cross connectivity and do the needful," he said.

Kanishk, however, rejected as entirely baseless, false and with an ulterior political motive the allegations levelled by Somaiya against him.

Randeep Singh Surjewala, chief spokesperson of the Congress, termed as completely preposterous and baseless allegations by Somaiya and a completely false attempt to find a link between Augusta Westland - Emaar-MGF- Hashke.

He said the vitriolic of BJP government and its multiple leaders to propagate conspiratorial falsehood everyday appears to have reached an extreme.

"According to Kanishka Singh, neither he nor any member of his family ever had any stake or shareholding in Emaar-MGF in the past nor have any such stake or shareholding in Emaar-MGF currently and have no connection, familiarity or relationship with either Hashke or anyone else connected to him", Surjewala said.

The Modi government is in power for the last two years and instead of relying upon friendly media leaks, insinuations, innuendoes and falsehood, should conclude an inquiry and give harshest punishment to those found guilty of any allegation of bribery in Augusta Westland case, he said.

Somaiya, however, mentioned that Guido was on the Board of Emaar-MGF for a short while and that the company was formed by Kanishk’s family.

The VVIP chopper deal is once again in news from last few days after an Italian court referenced middlemen mentioning top Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh.
