Cricketers who played despite being injured

With Rishabh Pant coming out to bat with a broken toe against England in the fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, let us have a look at five such instances of cricketers continuing to play despite being injured in games.

During the 2011 ODI World Cup, Australia's ace pacer Brett Lee was hit above his eyebrow, due to which he sustained a cut above the eyebrow. The incident happened during the World Cup quarter-final against India in Ahmedabad. While fielding, the ball deflected off of Lee's hand and hit him above the eyebrow. Leaving the field for a while, Brett Lee returned with a plaster covering the wound.

Scoring a whopping 201* runs in 128 deliveries, Maxwell propelled the Aussies to a resounding win.

Being hit on the foot by a delivery from Chris Woakes, Pant's toe was fractured, but he came out to bat after being retired hurt, and went on to score 54 runs in 75 deliveries.

In the third and final Test of the series between the two sides, Smith was hit in the hand and required surgery and six weeks of rest to completely heal. However, in an attempt to save the game, Smith made the decision to bat, but it was not enough in the end as Australia won the game by 103 runs.
