New Delhi: Smoking currently kills five million people a year worldwide and, according to estimates, will probably kill eight million people a year between now and 2030 and one billion over the course of the 21st century.
Worldwide it is estimated that men smoke nearly five times as much as women but the ratios of female-to-male smoking prevalence rates vary dramatically across countries.
There are countries where women smoke at nearly the same rate as men or even at a higher rate than men.
