In a shocking incident, several people were stabbed near a shopping centre in the southern city of Tampere in Finland on Thursday, The Associated Press (AP) reported citing Finnish public broadcaster Yle. As per the reports, one person was detained without giving further details. Tampere, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) north of Helsinki, is known as the sauna capital of the world.
It was not immediately clear how many people were arrested in the attack but police say the situation no longer posed a danger to others. Workers used pressure washers to clean up blood stains outside the mall, Finnish public broadcaster Yle reported. A large pool of blood was visible outside a restaurant and blood trailed from the mall to a nearby highway. Police initially blocked all doors of the Ratina shopping mall and people weren’t allowed to enter or leave the center. But by early evening, police said they had lifted a lockdown and left the scene.
Finland was ranked the happiest country in the world
Notably, in March this year, Finland was named the happiest country in the world for the eighth year in a row, according to the World Happiness Report 2025. Other Nordic countries are also once again at the top of the happiness rankings in the annual report published by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford.
Besides Finland, Denmark, Iceland and Sweden remain the top four and in the same order.
Country rankings were based on answers people give when asked to rate their own lives. The study was done in partnership with the analytics firm Gallup and the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network. Nordic nations rank among the top places for expected and actual return of lost wallets, the study found.
