Thimphu: A chef from Gujarat Bhawan in New Delhi has specially travelled to Bhutan to cook dishes for visiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is known to mostly eat home-cooked food.

The cook has been in Bhutan since almost a week as Modi is known for not having food outside, including hotel food.  Modi, who arrived here today for a two-day visit, is staying at hotel Taj Tashi. About 50 rooms have been reserved for the accompanying delegates.

Since the Prime Minister is a strict vegetarian, sources said the hotel was keeping more vegetarian dishes on the menu as well as some Gujarati dishes.

The official banquet for Modi will also have more vegetarian dishes, sources said.

Modi relishes home-cooked food or dishes prepared at the Gujarat Bhawan.

Even at the peak of his campaigning during the general election, Modi made it a point to go back to Ahmedabad at night to have a home-cooked meal.  On certain occassions when he had to stay in New Delhi, he would eat food cooked in Gujarat Bhavan.
