Washington:

Following Iran's decision to reject President Donald Trump's 15-point peace proposal, the United States (US) is reportedly considering a wartime contingency plan to seize the Islamic Republic's uranium. For this, the US military will likely deploy hundreds or even thousands of troops inside Iran.

According to a report by the Washington Post, the aim of this mission would be to secure over 1,000 pounds of radioactive material from within Iran. But it will unlikely be a conventional attack, and would require a "large-scale ground-intensive" operation inside the Iranian regime.

Quoting two US officials, the report stated that the American forces will enter Iran, transport the uranium and construct a temporary runway that would be capable of handling the heavy cargo material. The operation could take weeks to get completed, which would make the American forces more vulnerable to Iranian attacks.

Analysts have described the proposed operation as extremely dangerous, with a former US official saying that it is like "you’re not just buying a car on the lot, you’re buying the entire assembly line." Another former special forces operator told the Washington Post that the proposed mission will be "slow, meticulous and can be an extremely deadly process."

Trump's will 'finish the job' warning to Iran

The report has come at a time when Trump has said that the American forces will "finish the job" in Iran soon, stressing that they have nearly achieved their core operatives. In a late-night national address on Wednesday, the 79-year-old said the barrage of attacks will continue on Iran in the short time.

However, Trump didn't mention anything about sending US troops to Iran and about the possible timeline of the conflict in his 20-minute address. The US president even did not mention anything about possible negotiations with the current regime of Iran.

"We are going to hit them extremely hard over the next two to three weeks," Trump said. "We're going to bring them back to the Stone Ages, where they belong."

"We are going to finish the job, and we're going to finish it very fast. We're getting very close," he added.
