A powerful earthquake struck the Drake Passage region, a waterbody located between South America and Antarctica, on Friday, said the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Earlier, the intensity of the earthquake was expected to be around magnitude 8, but the USGS later downgraded it to magnitude 7.5.
However, the German Research Center for Geosciences (GRCG) said the earthquake measured 7.1 magnitude. On the other hand, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) of India measured the earthquake's magnitude at 7.4
The quake, meanwhile, struck at a depth of 10.8 km at 60.26 S latitude and 61.85 W longitude at around 7.46 am Indian Standard Time (IST) on Friday. As of now, no tsunami warning has been issued. Meanwhile, no damage or any kind of injury has been reported so far.
8.8 magnitude earthquake in Russia
In July this year, a powerful earthquake of 8.8 magnitude hit Russia's eastern Kamchatka region, triggering tsunami warnings across the Pacific region. The quake, which triggered tsunami waves between 9.8 feet and 13.1 feet in Russia, hit at a depth of 13 miles, around 74 miles near the coast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the capital of Russia's Kamchatka.
6.1 magnitude earthquake in Turkey

The quake had an epicentre in the town of Sindirgi, and it was even felt in Istanbul, which is nearly 200 km away from the Balikesir province.
