    Rajasthan: 74 new cases of COVID-19, 3 deaths reported

    74 new cases of COVID-19 and 3 new deaths have been reported in Rajasthan today, taking the total number of cases to 2438 including 55 deaths. 814 patients have recovered from the disease till date.

    Door-to-door screening to be conducted in all districts of Bihar from May 1

    Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey said that a door-to-door drive will be conducted to screen people for COVID-19 in all districts of Bihar, starting May 1. The door-to-door screening has already been completed in seven districts of the State.

    UP CM orders expansion of hospitals, 52,000 more beds

    Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered that the capacity of L1 (basic), L2 (those with oxygen facility), L3 (those with ventilators) dedicated COVID-19 hospitals be expanded and arrangement be made for 52,000 more beds.

    Chief Minister has also ordered that testings be done on an extensive level. He has also given directions that pool testing be done for those people, who are coming from outside the state.

    Coronavirus updates from Agra

    The number of COVID-19 positive cases in the Taj city mounted to 425 with 21 new additions, District magistrate P.N. Singh said. Despite the continued lockdown, the number of positive cases continued to rise in the city. 

    The district has so far seen 11 deaths due to the virus. At least 69 people have also recovered after getting infected with the deadly disease. Currently, 345 affected persons are receiving treatment in the state.

    Coronavirus updates from Odisha

    The number of COVID-19 cases in Odisha rose to 122 as three more districts reported new cases on Wednesday.

    Three persons have tested COVID-19 positive in Jharsuguda, Keonjhar and Deogarh districts, said the Information and Public Relations department. The three persons have been identified as a 60-year-old man of Panchapalli in Keonjhar, a 34-year-old man of Basudevpur in Deogarh and a 18-year-old girl of Brajrajnagar in Jharsuguda, said the department. All of them are West Bengal returnees and asymptomatic. They were placed under quarantine.

    Earlier on Wednesday, Bhubaneswar reported one more Covid-19 positive case increasing the total positive cases to 47 in the capital city.

    With this, the number of active cases in the state mounted to 83 while 38 patients have recovered so far. One person from Bhubaneswar died of the disease.

    Bareilly records first coronavirus death

    A 35-year-old man suffering from coronavirus died at a hospital here, the first death due to the virus in the district, officials said on Wednesday. The man was also suffering from cardiac problems, asthma and diabetes, Chief Medical Officer, Vineet Kumar Shukla, said. The patient was brought to the district hospital on Saturday and was later placed under quarantine at a super speciality hospital, the CMO said

    The district has reported eight positive cases of the virus so far. While six people have recovered, one is undergoing treatment and one died on Tuesday night, the CMO added.

    9 new positive cases have been reported from 28th April 5 pm to 29th April at 12 pm. The total number of COVID-19 cases rise to 532 in the state including 20 deaths and 215 discharges. +1 death due to non – Covid cause.

    73 new positive cases reported in Andhra Pradesh, 29 people discharged in the last 24 hours. Total number of coronavirus positive cases in the state stands at 1332, including 31 deaths & 287 discharged. No death reported in last 24 hours.

    Coronavirus updates from South Korea

    Nine new positive cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in South Korea, taking the country's tally to 10,761, health authories said on Wednesday. The daily caseload hovered around 10 for the 11th straight day. Of the new cases, five were imported from overseas, lifting the combined number to 1,061, Xinhua news agency reported.

    Two more deaths were confirmed, raising the death toll to 246. The total fatality rate came in at 2.29 per cent.

    A total of 68 more patients were discharged from quarantine after making full recovery, pulling up the combined number to 8,922. The total recovery rate was 82.9 per cent.

    The Korea Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) has updated the data once a day at 10:00 a.m. (local time) from March 10, after having announced it twice a day.

    Since January 3, the country has tested more than 6,14,000 people, among whom 5,95,129 tested negative for the virus and 8,307 were being checked.

    Coronavirus updates from Maharashtra

    Maharashtra reported 729 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking the state's tally to 9,318, a health official said. The state also reported 31 more deaths due to the disease, raising the toll to 400, he said. With this, Maharashtra COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases-9,318, deaths-400, discharged-1,388, active cases-7,530 and people tested so far-1,29,931.

    Mumbai city reported an increase of 393 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking its tally to 6,169. The state capital has reported deaths of 244 patients so far. The Thane division, which includes Mumbai and surrounding areas, has so far reported 7,223 cases and 263 deaths. The Pune division has so far reported 1,288 COVID-19 cases and 89 deaths. Pune city has reported 1,044 cases and 76 deaths till date.

    The Kolhapur division, that covers Western Maharashtra and Konkan, has till now reported 48 coronavirus cases and two deaths, followed by Nashik division where there have been 313 cases and 27 deaths so far, the health official said. The Aurangabad division in central Maharashtra has
    reported 108 cases of COVID-19 along with six deaths, while Latur division has reported 19 cases and one death so far.

    There are 155 cases in Akola division and nine deaths while there are 139 cases and one death in Nagpur division. The number of COVID-19 patients from other states who are receiving treatment in Maharashtra is 25 while two have succumbed to coronavirus infection, the official said.

    Besides, 1,388 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery. The official also informed that 1,55,170 people were placed in home quarantine and 9,917 in institutional quarantine. There are 664 active containment zones in the state,he said, adding that 9,361 official squads have so far completed surveillance of 38.30 lakh people.

    19 more persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Rajasthan taking the total number of cases to 2383. Out of the 19 new cases 5 are from Jaipur, 11 from Ajmer, 1 each from Udaipur, Banswara and Jodhpur.

    Coronavirus updates from Czech Republic

    The lower house of Czech Parliament has agreed to extend the state of emergency at the request of the government amid the coronavirus pandemic.

    The lawmakers approved the extension to May 17. The government argued it needed the expansion until May 25 because its last restrictive measures to contain the pandemic will expire by that date. But the opposition said it didn’t properly explain its demand.

    The state of emergency gives the government extra powers to respond to the outbreak, including a power to limit basic rights.

    Almost 7,500 people have been tested positive for the coronavirus in the Czech Republic, according to government figures released on Tuesday, 225 have died.

    Coronavirus updates from Los Angeles

    Los Angeles County has reported 59 new COVID-19-related deaths, raising the total to 1,000.

    “LA County has hit the tragic milestone of 1,000 people dying from COVID-19,” county public health director Barbara Ferrer said in a statement. “Please know that if you are grieving the loss of loved ones who have died from COVID-19, our thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, and your friends.”

    Los Angeles County, the nation’s most populous with 10 million residents, also reported 597 new cases, raising its total to 20,976.

    The number of deaths in institutional settings rose to 462 and the majority were residents of skilled nursing facilities, the county said.

    Coronavirus updates from China

    China on Wednesday reported a jump in imported cases of coronavirus, but no new deaths from the disease it causes.

    Out of 22 new cases, 21 were brought from abroad and one was a result of local transmission in the southern industrial province of Guangdong, the National Health Commission reported. China, the source of the worldwide pandemic, now has just 647 registered cases of COVID-19, along with just over 1,000 people under quarantine and monitoring for being suspected cases or having tested positive for the virus without showing symptoms.

    China has registered a total of 4,633 deaths from the virus among 82,858 cases. Authorities have relaxed social distancing restrictions, but have maintained strict quarantine rules on those coming from abroad or other parts of the country to ward off a second wave of virus cases as summer approaches.

    Coronavirus updates from US

    The number of COVID-19 cases in the US topped 1 million on Tuesday afternoon, reaching 1,002,498, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University. According to the tally, a total of 57,266 deaths related to the disease have been recorded in the country, Xinhua reported.

    New York remains the hardest-hit state, with 291,996 cases and 22,668 deaths, followed by New Jersey where 111,188 cases and 6,442 deaths have been reported.

    Other states with over 40,000 cases include Massachusetts, Illinois, California and Pennsylvania, according to the CSSE.

    The total death toll due to novel coronavirus has claimes more than 27,000 lives. As of today, Italy's death toll stood at 27,359, bringing the total number of cases, including fatalities and recoveries, so far to 201,505, according to the latest data released by the country's Civil Protection Department.
