Iran releases 25 Indian fishermen detained since March

The announcement of their release was made by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Twitter Thursday night.

Twenty five  Indian fishermen, all hailing from Tamil Nadu, who were detained with their Bahraini boats by Iran since March this year, have been released.

The announcement of their release was made by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Twitter Thursday night. 

“I am happy to inform that 25 Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu who were detained by Iranian Coast Guards since March 2017 with 5 Bahraini boats have been released and repatriated to Bahrain,” Sushma Swaraj tweeted. 

Swaraj  thanked the Indian Embassy in Tehran for their “relentless efforts” in facilitating the release of these fishermen.

All the 25 fishermen have been repatriated to Bahrain.
