New Delhi: Taking a leaf out of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious ‘Swachh Bharat Mission', solar energy operated mobile portable toilets – ‘Apna Shauchalaya' has been rolled out by Haryana government.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated the unique toilets in an event recently in Badhkal assembly constituency.

Apna shauchalya, made of recyclable plastic, is protected from ultra violet rays, light in weight and easily movable. The toilet unit has been fixed over a moveable rickshaw, for convenient usage at public places.

The concept of portable solar toilets has been transformed into reality by an NGO - Human Kind Foundation. It deals with issues like Sanitation, Garbage management, Water distribution, Renewable energies, Skill development and employment.

At the time when India is finding hard to tackle sanitation problems and mis-managed garbage, ‘Apna Shauchalaya' can prove out to be good alternative for public toilets.

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, launched by Narendra Modi-led NDA government last year, nearly 40 lakh individual household toilets have been constructed so far. However, the central government has set a target of construction of 10 crore toilets in the country by 2019.

Modi, in his address on 15th August from Red Fort, had emphasised on the need of building toilets in each and every household.

Even in 2014, during the election campaign, then prime ministerial candidate of BJP Modi had given the slogan of ‘Pehle shauchalaya, Phir devalaya'

"I am known to be a Hindutva leader. My image does not permit me to say so, but I dare to say. My real thought is -- Pehle shauchalaya, phir devalaya (toilets first, temples later)," he said.

India TV, as a part of social responsibility, is running an initiative named ‘Mission Clean India', showcasing people's awareness and dedication about cleanliness. The campaign has received personal appreciation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
