Gopalpur has an old port, which now lies in ruins. Renovated in 1970s, the jetties were supposed to revive trading activities, but trading is almost non-existent.
In medieval period, sailors from Odisha used to start their journey from this jetty to Indonesia and Rangoon across the Indian Sea.
