Porbandar: A Pakistani vessel with 8 suspected smugglers on board were detained off Porbandar coast yesterday late night.
Security personnel seized around 145 kg of heroine from their possession and also two banned thuraya satellite phones were recovered from the boat.
The coast guard is now bringing the boat towards Porbandar and is expected to reach soon.
Defence sources said the operation was carried out by a joint team of the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy. They said that the ship is suspected to have been involved in smuggling.
Two Navy ships, one coast guard ship and the Navy's surveillance aircraft, Dornier, were involved in the operation.
This comes just months after a Pakistani fishing boat said to be carrying explosives was intercepted by the Indian Coast Guard before it exploded and caught fire and sunk with four crew members on board. The incident had occurred on the intervening night of December 31, 2014, and January 1 some 365-km off the Porbander coast after a hot pursuit by the Coast Guard.
