New Delhi: Impressed by preparations of AIIMS Trauma Centre to handle any medical emergency during his three-day visit to the city, US President Barack Obama has sent personal gifts with his signature for the head of the medical team and the media officer, according to a report by The Asian Age.
AIIMS Trauma Centre was the designated health centre during Mr Obama's visit and stay in New Delhi.
Additional professor, department of emergency medicine, and additional medical superintendent Dr Sanjeeb Bhoi and public relations manager Nirmal Thakur received mementos with US President Obama's signature in the first week of February. The gifts were delivered by US embassy staffers personally to the two officials.
The Centre was kept on high alert with special emergency facilities, with a dedicated ward and an intensive care unit were on the standby for any untoward incident from January 25 to 27. US Secret Service officials and Indian security agencies looked after the security of the Trauma Centre.
Dr Bhoi expressed his happiness over the appreciation he got from the US President and said that it was a proud moment for the centre as its work is being appreciated by Obama.
Ms Thakur, who was really surprised to receive the gift, said that Mr Obama has recognised the work done at the trauma centre to treat patients by the faculty and staff members.
When the arrangements were being made at the Trauma Centre before President arrived in the capital, US Secret Service also presented a box of chocolates with the US President's signature and cufflinks to Dr Bhoi.
