Mumbai: The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) said here today that all civic-run schools in the city “managed” to show Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Teachers' Day address to students, which receive “overwhelming” response from students and teachers.

“All the 1153 schools run by the MCGM managed to live telecast the Teachers' Day address of the PM Modi today. Our endeavour was to ensure that the PM's message reaches every teacher and student in the city,” MCGM's Education Committee Chairman Vinod Shelar told PTI.

Shelar said the civic body made arrangements of live screening the address in 480 schools in the city, that have virtual classrooms in place, while television sets and computers with internet facilities were used in other schools.

“There were some schools where we could not show the speech on computers and TV sets. We put up huge screens in such places to ensure that all students in such schools can enjoy and learn from the PM's speech,” he said.

Shelar added that the Teachers' day address from the Prime Minister received an “overwhelming” response from teachers and students and those who have missed the live telecast will be shown the recorded version.

“We never expected to receive such an overwhelming response from students and their teachers. We have received reports that while students were listening to him (PM) with seriousness, they were simultaneously enjoying every bit of it because Modi made sure he came down to the level of students while explaining things to them,” he said.

Since September 5 is a non-teaching day, the municipal schools cancelled the morning sessions, and asked students to come for the screening  after 1 pm.
