    Boat capsizes amid floods in southeast Nigeria; 76 missing

    (AP) A boat overloaded with passengers fleeing flooding in southeastern Nigeria capsized and 76 people remain missing days later and are feared dead, emergency officials said Monday. Many women and children were among those trying to escape the floodwaters in the Ogbaru council area of Anambra on Friday, Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency said.

    Teenaged boy injured in blast in Delhi

    A 16-year-old boy sustained injuries in a blast in east Delhi's New Ashok Nagar area on Monday, police said. According to the police, the boy was filling some substance in a hollow pipe for bursting crackers that are also used to frighten animals when the blast took place in C-Block, New Ashok Nagar.

    Govt teacher hires proxy to teach students for Rs 8,000 in Gurugram

    Authorities on Wednesday raided a government school here after reports that a teacher hired a woman to teach students in his place, police said. The woman was hired by teacher Vipin Malik of Government Model Sanskriti Primary School at Sector-54 Suncity Colony for Rs 8,000 per month, they said, adding the woman did not have required qualification to teach the students.

    Woman dies after falling from 10th floor of building

    A 54-year-old woman died under suspicious circumstances after falling from the 10th floor of a building in the Indira Puram area on Monday, police said.     Haryana: 25 farmers fined for burning crop residue in Kurukshetra

    Twenty-five farmers in Haryana's Kurukshetra district have been fined for burning crop residue, officials said on Monday.     UP: Rape survivor set ablaze by accused’s family; 1 held

    A 15-year-old girl, pregnant after she was raped three months back, was allegedly set on fire by the mother and sister of the accused, police said on Monday. After learning about the pregnancy, the mother-daughter duo took the minor to their house on the pretext of getting her married to the accused. However, later on Saturday night, they poured kerosene on the girl and set her ablaze, they said.

    Gold smuggling case: SC agrees to hear ED's plea seeking transfer of trial from Kerala

    The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear a petition filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which has sought a transfer of the trial in the gold smuggling case from Kerala to Karnataka, claiming a "free and fair trial" in the case is not possible in the state. A bench comprising Chief Justice U U Lalit and Justice S R Bhat issued notice to the state of Kerala seeking its response to the Enforcement Directorate's plea and posted the matter for hearing on October 20.
