    Ghaziabad woman killed by in-laws over dowry: Police

    Police lodged a case of dowry death against the husband and in-laws of a woman who was found hanging here on Tuesday, officials said. Nazia, 22, was allegedly killed by her husband Altaf and in-laws in Alvi Nagar in Ghaziabad for not bringing sufficient dowry after marriage, a police official said. Nazia married Altaf 13 months ago. Her mother Firdaus lodged a complaint against Nazia's in-laws at Ankur Vihar police station on Tuesday.

    Ex-Chhattisgarh minister Kawasi Lakhma sent to judicial custody in 'liquor scam'

    A special court here on Tuesday sent Chhattisgarh Congress MLA and former minister Kawasi Lakhma to 14-day judicial custody in an alleged liquor scam. The special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court remanded the Congress leader to judicial custody till February 4, his counsel Faisal Rizvi said.

    He was produced before the special PMLA court judge Atul Kumar Shrivastava after expiry of his six days of the custodial remand to the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

    No liquor for Delhiites from Feb 3-5, Feb 8 due to Assembly polls

    The Delhi government has ordered the closure of liquor shops and other establishments serving alcohol in the city from February 3 to 5, the voting day, and on February 8 when the results would be declared.

    A gazette notification issued recently by the Delhi excise commissioner declared "dry days" under Excise Rules-2010 for various excise licenses on the day of voting to the 70-member Delhi Assembly and the counting day.

    Four miscreants were killed in an encounter by Uttar Pradesh STF in the Jhinjhana area of Shamli district; STF inspector injured. Mustafa Kagga gang member Arshad along with three others- Manjeet, Satish and one unknown accomplice were injured in the encounter. They have succumbed to injuries. Arshad was wanted in a robbery case from PS Behat, Saharanpur and a reward of Rs one lakh was declared on him. Cases of robbery, dacoity and murder were registered against Arsad. During the encounter, Inspector Sunil who was leading the STF team received multiple gunshot wounds and is undergoing treatment. He has been referred to Medanta, Gurgaon, said UP STF.
