Noida, Jul 10: Arrested farmer leader Manveer Singh Tevatia's daughter Radha has expressed fear that the Uttar Pradesh police may carry out a fake encounter to kill her father.Tevatia led the farmers agitation in Bhatta Parsaul, after which the local police resorted to large-scale rampage. Since then, Tevatia had gone underground and the state police had declared a Rs 50,000 reward for his arrest.
Tevatia was picked up from South Delhi's Hauz Khas by UP Police team on Saturday. His daughter met Janata Dal-United chief Sharad Yadav and expressed fear that Tevatia may be killed in an encounter.
Tevatia, his family said, was hiding in a house C-31 in Hauz Khas, when the UP police team zeroed in on him. Tevatia began running on seeing the police, but was caught after a chase of nearly two kilometres.
Tevatia had given an interview to a local newspaper, after which the UP police zeroed in on him.JD-U chief Sharad Yadav has written a letter to National Human Rights Commission requesting that Tevatia be provided security.
