Tushar Mehta appointed Solicitor General of India

Mehta's tenure will end on June 30, 2020. Solicitor General of India is the second highest rank for the law officer of the government.

Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General of India

Tushar Mehta was appointed Solicitor General of India on Wednesday by the Central government's Appointment Committee. The post was vacant since former Solicitor General, Ranjit Kumar demitted the office on October 20, 2017. 

Mehta's tenure will end on June 30, 2020. Solicitor General of India is the second highest rank for the law officer of the government.

Mehta has been serving as Additional Solicitor General since mid-2014, since the BJP came to power. 

Mehta is currently representing the state of Jammu and Kashmir in the Article 35A hearing before the Supreme Court. He has also represented the Centre in many high profile cases such as 2G scam case, Aircel-Maxis case, challenge to Section 66A of Information Technology Act, and the arrest of activists in the Bhima Koregaon case.
