In a shocking piece of news reported from Hyderabad, a minor girl was married to a 65-year-old Sheikh from Oman. According to media reports, the girl was married against her wish for a payment of Rs 5 lakh.
The incident came to light when the girl’s parents approached the local police station and filed a complaint with the Falakunuma police alleging that the teenager had been fraudulently married off to Ahmed, an Omani national. In the complaint, they have urged the authorities to bring the girl back from Muscat where she was taken after marriage.
Victim’s mother Unnisa said that her sister-in-law Ghousia colluded with her husband Sikander to fudge documents with the help of a Qazi. She added that without her knowledge, they performed her daughter’s nikaah at a hotel here before last Ramzan.
According to reports, the Omani Sheikh had paid Rs 5 lakh to Ghousia and Sikander for arranging the marriage.
"The Sheik is saying he had bought my daughter for Rs 5 lakh. He said this was paid to Sikander. Only if this amount is paid, he said he would send my daughter back to India," Unnisa said in the complaint.
Reports say that Ghousia and Sikander had showed videos to the girl saying she will lead a lavish lifestyle in Oman after marriage.
