New Delhi: Bihar police and Nepal police have launched a massive manhunt to recover abducted businessman Suresh Kedia, a member of Kedia Group of Industries. Kedia is the operator of Parwanipur-based Birgunj Food Industry among many other industries in the region.

The incident occurred on Thursday evening when a group of unidentified assailants kidnapped Kedia from Bariyarpur of Bara district. The assailants also opened fire at driver Kedia’s driver Shyam Umesh Prasad Sah, who is from Bindawabasini. He has sustained serious bullet injuries.

Kaleya DSP Binod Sharma said Kedia was returning from Garhi Mai temple of Bariarpur by his Tucson car to Birgunj. As soon as his car reached Baghaban near Pasah river, it was overtaken by a speedy Bolero. The attackers first opened fire on the driver and then dragged Kedia from his car and forced him to sit in their Bolero and sped away.

Eyewitnesses said that the kidnappers used a Scorpio with an Indian registration number to kidnap Kedia. They say that criminals sped away with their vehicle towards Bihar and entered Adapur area of East Champaran district.

Criminals, they say, were shouting for extracting Rs 100 crore ransom from the 'seth'.

According to reports, a red alert has been sounded on both sides of Indo-Nepal border by police personnel.

SSP Narayan Singh Khadka of Narayani Zonal Police Office said police have tightened scrutiny on border points and have launched a manhunt to nab the suspects.

The Nepal Home Department has also approached the Indian Home Ministry seeking their help in Kedia’s recovery.

Parsa SP Rajababu Shresth said that he is in touch with the DGP of Bihar and SP of East Champaran district Kedia's safety.
