The nation remembered former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 101st birth anniversary today. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Pranab Mukherjee, Hamid Ansari and several Congress workers paid floral tributes to the former PM at Shakti Sthal in Delhi. Also known as the Iron Lady of India, Indira Gandhi was born on November 19 in the year 1917 and assassinated on October 31, 1984.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to pay tribute to India's former Prime Minister on her birth anniversary.

"Tributes to India's former Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi Ji on her birth anniversary," he said on Twitter.

Indira Gandhi was assassinated by two of her body guards in 1984, who had shot her at her Safdarjung road residence in the capital,.

Born to India's first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Kamala Nehru, Indira Gandhi served as the prime minister for three terms lasting almost 16 years.
