Feeling tired or unusually weak can often be brushed aside as stress, poor sleep or a hectic routine. But sometimes, these changes may be linked to low iron levels. Doctor Kunal Sood recently shared some signs that could indicate your body may be asking for more iron. From constant exhaustion and feeling cold to breathlessness, increased hair shedding and pale skin, these symptoms can be easy to miss or dismiss. However, noticing several of them together may be a reason to pay closer attention to your health and speak to a healthcare professional.

Feeling exhausted despite getting enough sleep

One of the signs highlighted by Dr Sood is persistent exhaustion. If you continue to feel tired even after getting adequate sleep, it may be worth paying attention to the symptom.

Feeling cold all the time

Another sign is constantly feeling cold. If you often find yourself feeling colder than usual, it could be one of the symptoms to watch for.

Getting short of breath during simple activities

Dr Sood also pointed to shortness of breath during everyday activities. Feeling breathless while doing something that normally would not leave you winded can be another sign that your body may need more iron.

Increased hair shedding

Noticing more hair fall than usual is another symptom on the list. While hair shedding can happen for several reasons, Dr Sood included increased hair loss among the signs that may indicate a need for more iron.

Pale skin or inner eyelids

Changes in skin colour can also be worth noticing. Dr Sood highlighted pale skin and pale inner eyelids as another possible sign of iron deficiency.

It is important to remember that these symptoms are not specific to iron deficiency. They can also be linked to other health conditions or nutritional deficiencies. If you notice several of these signs together, especially if they persist, consider speaking to a healthcare professional. A blood test may help determine whether your iron levels are actually low.
