TV actor Karan Oberoi's lawyer responds to rape allegations, says charges are false
TV Actor Karan Oberoi, popular for his performance in Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin and other TV shows, was arrested for allegedly raping a woman and using her for money on Monday. According to the woman, Karan Oberoi was in a relationship with her since 2016 and he raped her on the pretext of marrying her. Now, his lawyer Dinesh Tiwari has come to the forefront to respond to the rape allegations. Terming the allegations as false, Karan Oberoi's lawyer said that they are taking necessary measures to "undo the damage".
Karan Oberoi's lawyer has issued a statement to the media. "Allegations are false. We are taking the necessary steps to undo the damage that has been done and expose the person behind it. Both of them initially had a casual chat but later, the woman started pressing Oberoi for various reasons. In order to extort money from him, she threatened to lodge a police complaint against him to defame him. When he refused to comply, the woman approached the police and registered a case on the basis of baseless allegations after which Oberoi too approached the police and gave his statement", the statement reads.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been filed against the Jassi Jaisa Koi Nahin actor wherein the said woman has accused him of rape, filming the act and then resorting to blackmail. Registered at the Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai under sections 376 (rape) and 384 (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code.
Karan Oberoi has starred in several television commercials and was also part of the indie pop band, A Band of Boys, which was formed in the year 2001. On the acting front, he had starred in Mahesh Bhatt's Swabhimaan wherein he played Bobby and went on to star in television shows like Saaya and Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin.
