The makers of Mohanlal and Mammootty's highly anticipated film Patriot revealed the new release date on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. Written and directed by Mahesh Narayanan, the film also stars Fahadh Faasil and Nayanthara in key roles.
For the unversed, the Malayalam action thriller Patriot was initially scheduled for release on April 23, 2026, but will now hit theatres on May 1, 2026. Read on for more details.

Sharing the release date announcement poster, Mammootty on Instagram wrote, "#Patriot In Cinemas Worldwide from May 01 , 2026 (sic)."
What did the makers say about Patriot's postponement?
On Tuesday, the makers of Patriot took to Instagram to reveal the reason behind the postponement of the film. The statement read, "We are working hard to bring Patriot to you at the highest possible quality. However, due to a combination of unforeseen circumstances, it has become necessary to postpone the film's release from the previously scheduled date of April 23 by a few days."

Besides Mammootty and Mohanlal, the film stars Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara, Rajeev Menon, Revathy, Grace Antony, Zarin Shihab, Sreeparvathy, Geethi Sangeetha, Jinu Joseph, Danish Husain, Shaheen Siddique, Sanal Aman, and Prakash Belawadi in important roles.
The film is produced by Anto Joseph and K G Anil Kumar under the banner of Anto Joseph Productions. Sushin Shyam composed the music for the film and editing of the film is done by Mahesh Narayanan and Rahul Radhakrishnan.
Mammootty and Mohanlal's work front
On the work front, superstar Mammootty was recently seen in Chatha Pacha in a cameo role. However, he played the lead role in Jithin K Jose's crime thriller Kalamkaval, alongside Vinayakan, which was released on December 5, 2025. On the other hand, Mohanlal was last seen in Vrusshabha and will next be seen in Drishyam 3.
