Neeraj Pandey’s recent directorial ‘M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story’ has enjoyed sensational collections at the box office in its first weekend. The movie has crossed the ₹ 50 crore-mark within three days of release and has earned a total of ₹ 66 crore.
Starring actor Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead, the movie is a biopic on ace Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Interestingly, just like MSD, his biopic is also hitting high since day one as it opened with the stupendous collections of ₹ 21.30 crore. With such a huge collection, the Dhoni biopic managed to surpass the earnings of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Fan’, to become the second biggest opener of 2016.
The Dhoni biopic which features the cricketer’s struggle from being no one to a big star in the sporting world, also sheds light on his love life.
Sushant has romanced two heroines in the movie – Disha Patani, who played the role of Dhoni’s first girlfriend and Kiana Advani, who portrays his wife Sakshi.
‘M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story’ has garnered positive reviews from the critics, along with word-of-mouth publicity from the audience owing to a brilliant script and powerful performances.
The Doni love is quite evidently visible with the box office collections of the movie, which is increasing tremendously with every passing day as the movie minted ₹ 20.60 crore on its second day.
Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the collection of ‘M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story’ on micro-blogging site Twitter.
If the Bollywood trade analysts are to be believed, the movie is expected to witness a magnum collection in the coming days.
In fact, the Dhoni biopic, which is made with a big budget of ₹ 100 crore, might recover its cost of production within a week of its release.
Sushant Singh starrer is reportedly doing good business not just in single screens but also in multiplexes as well.
‘M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story’ was released on September 30 and got one of the widest releases. The movie is said to have released in 4,500 screens across 60 countries.
