Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018: Crucial candidates who will define victory for their parties in today's polls

After a vigorous campaign for more than three months, Karnataka is today voting to elect a new assembly in a three-cornered contest.

Polling will be held in 222 constituencies out of the 224-member assembly.

Karnataka is all geared up for the crucial assembly elections. Polling is underway for 222 constituencies out of the 224-member assembly as the election has been countermanded in Jayanagara following the death of BJP candidate and sitting MLA BN Vijayakumar and deferred in RR Nagar due to voter ID card scam.

Here are the list of the candidates to watch out this election:

Congress

1. Siddaramaiah, the incumbent chief minister is contesting from Badami and Chamundeshwari

2. G Parameshwara, Congress State Party Chief is contesting from Korategere

3. Yatindra, son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah  is contesting from Varuna constituency

4. State Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy is contesting from BTM Layout

5. Karnataka Energy Minister DK Shivakumar is contesting from Kanakapura constituency

BJP

1. BS Yeddyurappa, BJP's chief ministerial candidate is contesting from Shikaripura

2. G Somashekara Reddy is contesting from Ballari city

3. G Karunakara Reddy is contesting from Harappanahalli constituency in Davanagere district

4. KS Eshwarappa is contesting from Shivamogga

5. Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar is contesting from Hubli-Dharwad Central

6. Former Minister of Water Resources and son of former Chief Minister SR Bommai Basavaraj Bommai is contesting from Shiggaon

7. Former Public Works Minister CM Udasi is contesting from Hangal constituency.

8. KV Hegde is contesting from Sirsi

9. B Sriramulu is contesting from Molakalmuru constituency

JD(S)

Independent candidates

P Anil Kumar, a 43-year-old tea seller turned millionaire has now entered the political bandwagon and has filed his nomination papers for Karnataka assembly elections scheduled to take place on May 12. Anil Kumar will be contesting as an independent candidate from Bommanahalli constituency in Bengaluru. 

Dropped candidates

1. Vijayendra, son of former Chief Minister and BJP's chief ministerial candidate BS Yeddyurappa has been dropped as the party's candidate from the Varuna constituency

2. Sitting Uduppi-Chikkamagalur MP and former key aide of BS Yeddyurappa Shobha Karandlaje has been dropped by the BJP

3. HS Chandramouli who had represented the absconding businessman Mehul Choksi who had originally been given a ticket by the Congress to contest the election from Madikeri has been dropped for the upcoming elections.
