OnePlus One unveiled, features Snapdragon 801 CPU and CyanogenMod 11S

New Delhi: OnePlus, the startup founded by former Oppo executive Pete Lau, has unveiled its first flagship smartphone, called the One. The smartphone offers all the bells and whistles of the flagship Android phones from the big OEMs, but with an affordable price tag of $299 for the 16 GB version. The device will be available in a standard Silk White or Sandstone Black.Made from Magnesium, the device weighs only 162g. Its edges are only 4.6mm, which is pretty thin if compared to the iPhone 5S' is 7.6mm. With a combination of Matte and Glossy materials the smartphone is less distracting from the front, and more captivating from the sides.The OnePlus One features a 5.5-inch full HD resolution screen with 401ppi. And despite its big 5.5-inch display, the minimal recessed bezel means the physical dimensions of the One are not much larger as compared to other 5-inch Android phones like the Xperia Z2. That means it will be comfortable to use in one hand. The rear of the device comes with “the best 13MPx IMX214 Sensor” which features a mighty 6 lenses with an f/2.0 aperture and combines these with an incredible shutter speed of 0.3s. The front camera is a surprising 5MPx. The front camera is capable of recording 4K videos along with 720p video at up to 120fps.Under the hood, the One is powered by a Snapdragon 801 quad core processor running at 2.5GHz. The processor is backed by 3GB of RAM operating at 1866 MHz. OnePlus One is available with 16GB of storage in white or 64GB of storage in black.Connectivity options include 2G/3G/4G compatibility, and Bluetooth 4.0.On the software front, the One runs a custom version of CyanogenMod, 11S, which is based on KitKat (Android 4.4). Since CyanogenMod is highly customizable users will be able to apply any theme and icon set they wish. A unique privacy feature of CyanogenMod comes in form of support for SMS encryption between the One and other phones running CyanogenMod, or other TextSecure-compatible devices. The company says a big advantage of using CyanogenMod is that the team generally releases a version of their mod on their "nightly" channel around a month after a new Android release. This means less waiting to get the latest Android version.Other feature includes waking the phone with the use of voice, in a similar fashion to how this works on the Moto X. In addition, you'll also be able to draw gestures on the screen when the phone is sleeping to launch right into a specific app. The One can also be used with either onscreen or traditional capacitive buttons.The One comes with a large 3000+ mAh battery. The company says it has adopted a holistic approach in designing the device as it paid attention to the smallest details. These details include –"custom cut and engineered" PCB boards and the especially designed battery.A 16GB version of the OnePlus One will sell for $299 with the 64GB version selling for $349. The device supports LTE and will be available initially in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, the UK and the US, although the startup refrained from giving a firm release date.
