Best bikes at Auto Expo 2014

Greater Noida: At the Auto Expo 2014 automakers made a big splash by displaying some of their latest offerings in the motorcycle segment. In fact, some of the models displayed by iconic bikemakers are amongst the largest crowd pullers. Take a look at some of these bikes:Bajaj Pulsar CS 400Bajaj unveiled its sporty and eye-catching CS400 semi-cruiser concept at the 2014 Auto Expo. The CS400 is a cruiser bike with a sporty riding posture. The riding style is between that of a sports bike and a commuter, designed to be ergonomic for long rides. This bike is 50 percent production ready but would not launch in the market in 2014.Hero Motocorp HasturHero Motocorp, the world's largest two-wheeler maker by volume, unveiled its aggressively styled streetfighter design, the Hastur. The bike packs an over-square parallel twin, liquid-cooled, four-stroke 620 cc engine developing 80 PS at 9,600 rpm and 72 Nm of torque at 7,750 rpm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The company has used bright yellow trellis chassis which utilizes the engine as a stress member for optimum mass centralisation. Hero claims to have used advanced technology to make the bike fuel efficient and low on emissions. Other features include twin projector beam headlights with LED running lights, integrated LED winkers and LED taillight and cylinder head with controlled swirl injection (CSI) technology. Bajaj Pulsar SS 400Bajaj also unveiled Pulsar SS400, previously known as the Pulsar 375. In addition to its sporty and agile looks, the bike imbibes the Pulsar brand's original streetfighter character. The SS400 has a lot to drool about. It is the fully fairing version of the Pulsar. The headlamps comprise of twin projector lamps which have black surrounds and a matt silver lining below them. Above the headlamps there are two pilot lamps, which acts as the ‘brows' of the angry ‘owl' eyes of the Pulsar SS400. Chassis-wise the SS400 features a different frame to the trellis on the KTM 390 Duke this bike is based on. The engine is also based on the KTM's but has been considerably reworked and features Bajaj's triple spark technology. It is powered by a four-stroke, 375cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine, derived from the engine in the KTM 390 Duke, and managed by a six-speed gearbox. Vardenchi T5Mumbai-based bike maker Vardenchi unveiled the T5, a premium motorcycle. The bike is designed and developed at Vardenchi's state-of-the- art facility in Navi Mumbai, while the engine is imported from Motomorinin in Italy. The starting price of the bike would be in the range of Rs 8-12 lakh, Vardenchi Motorcycles Founder Akshai Varde said. It uses Moto Morini's V-Twin 1,187 cc engine which produces about 120 bhp. The bike will be sold through a few exclusive dealers. The bike will be sold in Europe through Moto Morini's distribution network.Mahindra Mojo 300 ccMahindra Two Wheelers unveiled the production Mojo at the Auto Expo 2014. The 300cc motorcycle will be the manufacturer's flagship bike in the country. The engine is a liquid-cooled, four stroke single cylinder and delivers around 28PS of power. The transmission is expected to be a 6-speed. The Mojo also gets radial brakes, USD forks and Pirelli Sport Demon tyres. As expected, Mahindra has given the Mojo a digital speedometer with an analogue tacho with a shift light and low fuel warning indicators. Mahindra will launch the Mojo in India around June 2014 and prices will be announced closer to that date. The Mojo will compete against the likes of the KTM 390 Duke, CBR250R and Ninja 300. Yamaha FZ-S Blue ConceptYamaha showcased a FZ-S blue concept version at the 2014 Auto Expo. Yamaha hadn't changed anything on the bike except for the blue color and some tweaks in the parts to make it more aggressive.UM Global Renegade cruisersU.S.-based UM Global unveiled the Renegade, a 137cc bike, at the company's pavilion. The Renegade Sport is also a cruiser bike that is available with three engine options – 137.8cc, 180.4cc and 196.4cc. These engines produce 10.97 HP and 10.53 Nm, 16.7 HP and 13.68 Nm and 15.22 HP and 14.67 Nm of power and torque respectively. All the engines are 1-cylinder 4-stroke and they are air-cooled and mated to a 5-speed transmission. The front suspension is hydraulic telescopic and the rear is hydraulic with spring. The maximum fuel tank capacity is 10-litres. In addition, the company also launched Duty and Commando bikes as part of the Renegade Cruiser lineup.Triumph Daytona 675Iconic British bike maker Triumph expanded its product portfolio in India by launching 'Daytona 675' having a price tag of Rs. 10.15 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) at the Auto Expo. The 675 is available in four colours and offers ABS as standard. Triumph Motorcycles now has 11 motorcycles on sale in the Indian market including the Bonneville, Bonneville T100, Speed Triple, the Rocket III Roadster, the Street Triple, the Thruxton, Tiger 800 XC, Tiger Explorer, the Daytona 675 and the 675R. DSK Hyosung Aquila 250 cruiserKorean bike maker Hyosung along with its Indian partner DSK launched one of the original Vee-twin cruisers to hit India, the Aquila 250. Carrying with the tagline “The Real Cruiser”, the Aquila 250 is powered by a quarter-litre Vee-twin, oil-cooled DOHC 8-valve engine which produces 26.21 horsepower at 9500 rpm and 21.37Nm of maximum torque at 7000 rpm. The Aquila uses regular telescopic suspension up front and dual hydraulic shock absorbers at the back. The Aquila 250 is priced at Rs 2.69 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and will be available through DSK Hyosung showrooms across the country.Triumph Rocket III RoadsterU.K.-based Triumph Motorcycles showcased ten motorcycles, including the Rocket III Roadster. The Rocket III roadster comes with the biggest motorcycle engine in production in the world. The Rocket III is powered by a 2294cc three-cylinder engine churning out 146 BHP of power and 220 Nm of torque. The roadster can tour highways or just cruise around street with effortless ability. The Rocket III comes in as a CBU and is priced at Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).Triumph Thunderbird StormThe Thunderbird Storm is powered by 1700cc two-cylinder engine producing 98 BHP of power and is mated to a six-speed transmission, focused towards effortless cruising on the open roads. Based on original Thunderbird, the cruiser offers adjustable suspension, ABS and self cancelling indicators amongst other features. The Thunderbird Storm is priced at Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom).Triumph Bonneville The entry level Triumph is powered by an 865cc, air-cooled, fuel injected engine producing peak power of 67 BHP and 67 Nm of torque. The engine has been mated to a 5-speed transmission, while the front and the rear wheels are equipped with disc brakes. It costs Rs 5.7 lakhs (ex-showroom).Suzuki V-StromSuzuki showcased the V Strom 1000 at the Auto Expo 2014. The V Strom 1000 gets a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 90 degree V-Twin engine mated to a six-speed constant mesh gearbox. It gets an inverted telescopic suspension coil spring setup at the front and link type coil spring setup at the rear. Stopping power comes from twin discs and the front and a single disc at the rear. It is powered by a V-Twin engine that is mounted on an aluminium chassis. The V Strom 1000 has a curb weight of 228 kg and a 20 liter fuel tank.Suzuki GixxerThe Gixxer is powered by a four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, SOHC engine displacing 150 cc. The company claims that the bike offers “exceptional riding performance” and “best fuel economy in class.” The bike gets a telescopic suspension at the front and a swingarm type mono-shock suspension for the rear. A disc brake is seen at the front while the rear gets a drum brake.Harley Davidson Street 750Harley-Davidson unveiled the Street 750 in India for the very first time. The Street 750 is powered by the all-new Revolution X engine, a pure Harley-Davidson V-Twin engine specifically designed for urban riding. It is liquid-cooled to maintain peak performance both in the city and on the highway. A single overhead cam, four valves per head and a smooth-shifting 6-speed transmission delivers great power to the bike in city traffic. It has an all-black exhaust system, aggressive slash on the tail section, cafe-style speed screen, and black front fork gaiters. The company also says that the Street 750 provides every bit of the Harley experience that its bigger brothers provide.
