New Delhi/Ottawa, Oct 12: Scores of BlackBerry users faced problems in accessing the e-mail, messenger and other online services on their smartphones for the third day today, but service providers said they have no plans to waive the charges for the days services were disrupted.
BlackBerry handset users are still experiencing intermittent issues while using BlackBerry services caused by a core switch failure.
Various telecom operators like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance Communications and Idea Cellular offer different plans to provide Blackberry services.
Asked whether they would waive charges for the period during which subscribers have not been able to use the services, one of the leading operators Bharti Airtel said, “No plans on waiving rental as of now.”
Vodafone and RCom did not offer any comment on the issue of waiving charges.
India have close to one million BlackBerry subscribers.
Meanwhile, BlackBerry maker Research In Motion said on the tweeter that message delays were caused by a core switch failure in RIM's infrastructure which has now being resolved.
However, customers are receiving alert messages from the operators saying, “We are aware that you are still experiencing intermittent issues while using BlackBerry services. Blackberry service provider, RIM continues to work on the same and services are likely to be restored soon. We thank you for your patience.”
According to RIM, the messaging and browsing delays being experienced by BlackBerry users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Brazil, Chile and Argentina were caused by a core switch failure within RIM's infrastructure.
“Although the system is designed to failover to a back-up switch, the failover did not function as previously tested. As a result, a large backlog of data was generated and we are now working to clear that backlog and restore normal service as quickly as possible,” RIM said. PTI
