New Delhi: Flipkart is making its debut in the online gaming community in India. The e-commerce giant will start its one-month-long Flipkart Gaming Online Championship (FGOC) today. The championship will be held between June 3 and July 11 and will be live streamed on Twitch, a live streaming video platform.

The online games which will be played include FIFA, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends and Defense of the Ancients 2. 

Only FIFA will be restricted to individual gamers but the remaining three can be played with teams of five players facing off against each other.

Flipkart’s Vice President, Electronics and Auto, Adarsh K Menon said that the gaming segment in India is growing fast. He also added that the reason for Flipkart’s interest in free online games is from the 50 percent growth in this category witnessed in the last six months. Flipkart is hoping to engage at least 1,000 gamers through this competition.

Adarsh added, “Our goal is to become the largest destination for both gamers as well as gaming product brands and also contribute towards developing the Indian gaming ecosystem. Brands like Alienware, Dell, Sony and Microsoft are already witnessing tremendous growth on our platform in their Gaming portfolio and we expect this demand to double in the next six months.”

To participate and play free online games, you need to log in to Flipkart Gaming Facebook page and start playing. Prizes will be given in the form of gift vouchers. 

The event schedule and prizes are as follows:  

  • June 3-June 9: FIFA on PS4 will receive Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 for first, second and third places respectively. 
  • June 14-June 20: League of Legends will receive Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 for the first and second places respectively.
  • June 25-June 29: Counter Strike: Global Offensive will receive Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 for the first and second places respectively.
  • July 5-July 11: Defense of the Ancients 2 will receive Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 for the first and second places respectively.
