The Karnataka High Court today issued a bailable warrant against liquor baron Vijay Mallya after he failed to appear in a contempt case.
The court issued the warrant after Malaya's counsel submitted that he had communicated to Mallya about court's earlier order of asking him to appear in person before the court. He also added that Mallya did not respond to the communication.
After hearing Mallya’s counsel, the court issued the warrant and fixed Rs 1 lakh as bail amount.
The Karnataka HC was hearing a contempt petition against Vijay Mallya who failed to keep his oral undertakings he gave to Debt Recovery Tribunal in 2013. He had promised to the Bengaluru bench of DRT that he will not transfer or sell his assets.
