Eight wagons of goods train derail in Bihar's Hajipur; restoration work underway

On receiving the news, Accident Relief Train (ART) teams from Asansol, Madhupur and Jhajha were immediately sent to the site. Restoration work is currently underway on a war footing.

Over eight wagons of a goods train derailed in Bihar’s Hajipur, disrupting train operations on both up and down lines in this section. The mishap took place at 11:25 pm on Saturday between Lahabon and Simultala stations in the Asansol Division of Eastern Railway, ANI reported citing CPRO, East Central Railway.

On receiving the news, Accident Relief Train (ART) teams from Asansol, Madhupur and Jhajha were immediately sent to the site. Restoration work is currently underway on a war footing. 

Goods train derails in SAIL's Gua siding

Earlier on December 16, a goods train derailed at the siding of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) in Gua, located in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district, railway officials said. The incident caused a temporary disruption in the movement of freight trains carrying iron ore to SAIL’s mines in the area.

One bogie of the train was reported to have come off the tracks at the siding, which is used for loading and unloading iron ore, according to Aditya Kumar Chaudhary, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of South Eastern Railway, Chakradharpur.

"The place where the incident happened is managed by SAIL. The line was restored by the SAIL authorities with the help of a railway technical team," he told PTI.

Authorities confirmed that the derailment did not impact the trains running on the main railway line.

SAIL operates four iron ore mines in West Singhbhum district, located at Gua, Kiriburu, Manoharpur (Chiria) and Meghahatuburu.

8 elephants killed after being hit by Sairang-New Delhi Rajdhani Express in Assam

As many as eight elephants were killed after being hit by the Sairang-New Delhi Rajdhani Express train in Assam’s Hojai district. The mishap took place on December 20.

The accident caused the derailment of five coaches along with the train’s engine, though fortunately, no passengers were hurt, according to a spokesperson from Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).

Suhash Kadam, the divisional forest officer of Nagaon, told PTI that the collision happened in the Changjurai area of Hojai district. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and assessing the impact on local wildlife.
