New Delhi: Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti, who is at the centre of a raging row as he tried to raid an alleged drug and prostitution ring but the police refused to do his bidding citing lack of warrant.

He had a verbal argument with a police official after he refused to conduct a raid at a building in south Delhi's Khirki Extension.

But this is not the first case where he interfered in the working of the police. A year ago, he had given a mouthful to the Bangalore police who dared to register a case against his brother.

His brother, Loknath Bharti, an engineering graduate, was arrested by Bangalore police for allegedly threatening his landlord's cook with a knife.

He got bail from a magistrate, but not before AAP members staged a protest against the police for alleged custodial torture of Loknath.

Police, however, blamed Loknath for not cooperating with them and claimed that he assaulted a police constable during his arrest.

Somnath had come to the rescue of his brother and blamed the Bangalore police for trying to divert attention from his earlier actions in Delhi.

Somnath was then defending the eight people accused of killing Delhi police constable Subhash Singh Tomar, during protests near India Gate following the gang-rape of a 23-year-old.

Somnath and Loknath then filed a complaint on January 14 against Loknath's landlord for making false allegations and against police officers including a SI, and circle inspector for assault.

Somnath had demanded the police officers be booked charges of attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy, voluntarily causing grievous hurt and wrongful confinement.

However, the FIR mentions voluntarily causing hurt, assault, wrongful confinement for extorting confession and threat.
