Telangana Municipal Elections ends peacefully; 73 per cent voter turnout recorded

Telangana Municipal Elections: The voting was held in crucial municipal elections covering 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations. With over 52 lakh voters and around 13,000 candidates, the election was closely watched as a test of political strength for Congress, BJP, and BRS.

Polling for 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations across Telangana concluded peacefully on Wednesday, with over 52 lakh voters casting their ballots. Voting began at 7 am and continued until 5 pm, while the counting of votes is scheduled for February 13. The elections are being seen as a crucial political test for the ruling Congress, the opposition BJP, and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Over 73 per cent of voters exercised their franchise in the municipal elections in Telangana which passed off peacefully barring minor skirmishes at a few places. The State Election Commission (SEC) said 73.01 percentage of voting was recorded.  Khammam and Kothagudem districts recorded a particularly strong voter turnout, with over 82 per cent polling in Khammam and 73 per cent in Kothagudem by 5 pm. Although voting started on a slow note, it picked up pace by the afternoon in municipalities such as Edulapuram, Sathupalli, Madhira, Kallur, and Wyra.

    Over 51% voting recorded in 3 municipalities by 1 PM

    Polling picked up pace in Kollapur, Kalwakurthy and Nagarkurnool municipalities, with voter turnout reaching 51.99 per cent by 1:00 p.m. on February 11, 2026. Election officials said the response from voters has been steady since morning, and arrangements are in place to ensure smooth and peaceful voting across all polling stations.

    Polling stood at 30.67% as of 11 am

    Sangareddy District Collector and Election Officer P Pravinya visited a polling station in Ward 31 of Sangareddy Municipality to review the arrangements for voting. During her inspection, she checked the electoral rolls, voting compartments, ballot boxes and other facilities put in place for smooth polling. Providing an update on voter turnout, she said that across the 11 municipalities in the district, polling stood at 30.67 per cent as of 11 am

    Revanth Reddy to vote in Kodangal

    Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will cast his vote in Kodangal, Vikarabad district, during the municipal elections on February 11. Reddy, who represents Kodangal as an MLA, is scheduled to vote at 11:30 am at the Zilla Parishad High School in the town. After casting his vote, he will return to Hyderabad, according to an official release.

    GHMC to be split into three corporations

    The Telangana State government has issued an official order to divide the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) into three separate civic bodies, Greater Hyderabad, Malkajgiri and Cyberabad. The move is aimed at improving administration and managing the growing urban population more effectively. The government has also appointed commissioners for all three newly formed corporations.

    BRS seeks action against Gadwal MLA

    Telangana election LIVE: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has filed a complaint with the Telangana State Election Commission, demanding action against Gadwal MLA Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy. The party alleged that he continued campaigning and meeting voters during the 48-hour silence period, after the official campaign deadline had ended. BRS leaders claimed the MLA used his position to influence voters and tried to create pressure and inducement ahead of polling.

    Polling for 123 urban local bodies in Telangana underway

    Voting has begun in Telangana for elections to 123 urban local bodies. Polls are being held today for 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations, with over 52 lakh voters expected to take part. Voting started at 7 am and will continue till 5 pm, while the counting of votes will be held on February 13. The contest in most urban local bodies is expected to be mainly between the Congress, BRS and BJP. The State Election Commission has made arrangements at more than 8,000 polling stations and deployed over 41,000 polling personnel to ensure smooth and peaceful voting.

    Tight security, cash seizures reported

    Telangana LIVE: The SEC said 41,773 polling personnel have been deployed and over 16,000 ballot boxes are in use. During Model Code enforcement, authorities seized Rs 1.05 crore in cash and other items including liquor and drugs.
