Dhaka, Bangladesh: Tintashe Panyangara delivered his career best 5-59 to help Zimbabwe keep the match evenly poised against Bangladesh at stumps on the second day of the first test on Sunday.

Using short balls to unsettle batsmen, Panyangara's maiden five-for helped dismiss Bangladesh for 254 after which Zimbabwe made 5-0, and trailing by 9 runs. Vusi Sibanda was batting on 5 with Regis Chakabva on 0 before the bails were drawn.

Bangladesh took a 14-run lead in the first innings in response to Zimbabwe's 240. Captain Mushfiqur Rahim was the topscorer for the home side with 64 while Mahmudullah made 63.

Mominul Haque with 53 was the other notable contributor. The runouts of Haque and Shakib Al Hasan (5) in the space of 25 balls either side of lunch dented Bangladesh's progress. Haque, instead of dragging the bat to the ground, kept it in the air as Sikandar Raza broke the stumps with a direct hit from cover.

Shakib Al Hasan was stranded and run out after a miscommunication with Mahmdullah. Mahmudullah and Rahim made a solid fifth-wicket partnership of 64 before Sikandar Raza had the former trapped leg before wicket. The umpire's decision was not out but Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor went for review which showed the ball would have been hit his leg stump.

This was the first successful review in the match after Bangladesh decided to employ DRS for the first time in a home series. After the new ball was taken, Panyangara took out Rahim with a short ball to dash Bangladesh's hopes of a big lead.

Tafadzwa Kamungozi and Sikandar Raza claimed one wicket apiece.
