Uncomfortable with the restoration of friendly relation between BJP and JD(U) ahead of the state assembly elections, LJP President, Ram Vilas Paswan on Monday  said Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had surrendered to the RSS for political gain.

"We stand vindicated as we have termed Kumar's act on the ad row as nothing but a high drama... after cancelling the dinner for BJP leaders and subsequently returning flood relief money to Gujarat, he has finally surrendered to his old ally RSS for political gain," Paswan told reporters. Kumar met senior BJP and RSS leaders yesterday and burried their "drama of difference". It was a glaring example of politics of opportunism for clinging to power, he said.

Referring to Kumar's claim to have established rule of law and good governance, Paswan said it was an attempt to fool the people as he was inducting people of criminal antecedents into the party. He said that the number of cognizable offences in Bihar were 1,53,525 including 3,152 murder chargers during 2009-10.

He said though Kumar claimed that over 49,000 people were convicted during the past over 55 months, the facts remained that 29,938 persons were lodged in various jails and out of which 21,937 people were undergoing sentences. Kumar should clarify the status of the rest.

He also alleged the state government had failed to construct 12 lakh houses under the Indira Awas Yojana despite allotment of fund by the Centre and its performance in implementation of MNREGA and Prime Minister Sadak Rojgar Yojana was very poor. PTI
