Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Friday told the West Bengal Assembly that she will come there whenever she wants and there was no need for her to come if there are no questions, minutes after the opposition Left Front staged a walkout protesting her absence.

"If there are no questions, why should I come? I will come whenever I want to. I give most time to the house. If there is no subject, what should I do by coming here" asked Banerjee, who entered the assembly after the Left members exited demanding her presence in the house during question hour.

"There was only one question, on land, which is sub-judice and they were informed of it," she said justifying her absence for most part of the question hour.

Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Anisur Rehman later told media persons that the chief minister was yet to answer "hundreds of questions" asked by the opposition.

Left members later submitted photocopies of the questions related to the departments which Banerjee is in charge of.

Congress legislators too subsequently walked out of the house after the speaker did not allow an adjournment motion on violence in a college in Bahrampore in Murshidabad district.
