EC wants to ban conduct of opinion polls during elections, BJP objects
New Delhi: The Election Commission is going to forward to the Law Ministry a proposal to prohibit conducting of opinion polls and dissemination of results thereof during the period starting from date of notification of
"Collecting opinion of a handful of people, and that too, without any official scrutiny, is tantamount to vitiating the electoral process", said Digivijaya Singh, Congress general secretary.
The Election Commission had asked the views of all political parties in this matter and today was the last deadline. The letter was sent to all main political parties on October 4, 2013.
The Commission will now forward its view to the the Law Miniustry soon.
